Spring means thunderstorms. Do have you a surge protector?? These may cost a bit, but everyone agrees they are well worth it.

But should you leave them plugged in during a storm?

NO!!

It is best to turn off your computer and monitor and unplug the surge protector. If you have all your set up plugged into the same monitor, then unplugging the surge protector sees everything is safe.

Surge protectors often wear out over time, so you may not be protected. And even the best surge protector cannot protect you from a direct hit.

Also, unplug your phone connection to the computer. There are incidents of people unplugging the electrical connection, but leaving the phone in and the phone line taking a hit and frying their computer.
