Okay I have an argument on this one...first yes, she broke the law by faking the vaccination lists, but most new pet owners take the dogs to vets and they do get shots...this is another blown out of proportion push for "rabies" shot again....if the owners took the dogs to a vet, then within the proper time they most likely got the shots or boosters....now how do they know that the new owners never got the shots?
JanetVOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. -- A Volusia County dog breeder is facing fraud charges after detectives say she stole documents to make fake vaccination certificates and tags for dogs she was selling.
However, police stopped her before she sold any dogs that were confiscated, but they want to know if she sold any in the past.
Renee Baker is an accused thief and con artist who might have put people's health at risk by possibly spreading rabies.
"This the first time we've seen something going on like this," said Becky Wilson of the Volusia County Animal Control.
Baker is accused of stealing 13 dog tags from DeLand Animal Clinic and forging five vaccination certificates at Val-U-Vet in south Daytona. Officers said Baker worked for both clinics in the past.
Baker was breeding and selling dachshunds out of her home in Oak Hill. According to Florida law, dog breeders have to vaccinate and register their animals before selling them.
Investigators say Baker's dogs had their documents, but they were fake and stolen.
The cost to get a dog vaccinated and tagged is about $20.
Baker is charged with four felonies. Authorities say they are worried about the health risks she may have caused.
"We have people buying pets and not getting them vaccinated. Because they think their dog is vaccinated," said Gary Davidson of the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
If anyone bought a dog from Baker they are urged to contact animal control.
